Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid

“A Belle Époque palace with manicured gardens and a glass-domed roof sits within Madrid's museum triangle.”

Our Review

A Storied Past and a Grand Present

Inaugurated in 1910 by King Alfonso XIII, the Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid stands as a testament to a desire for a truly luxurious hotel fit for European royalty. This magnificent Belle Époque palace was born from the vision of renowned French architect Charles Frédéric Mewes and constructed under the guidance of Spanish architects Luis de Landecho and Lorenzo Gallego, making it one of the first buildings in Madrid to utilize reinforced concrete. After a meticulous and extensive three-year renovation led by architect Rafael de La-Hoz, the hotel reopened in 2021, masterfully preserving its pioneering spirit and unique character while enhancing its facilities for the modern discerning traveler. The restoration has ingeniously retained the soul of the original property, incorporating clever contemporary design by Gilles & Boissier with a wealth of classic extravagance. A highlight of this renovation is the reinstatement of the stunning crystal canopy ceiling in the Palm Court, which had been hidden for over 80 years.

Elegant Accommodations

The property offers 153 luxuriously appointed rooms, including 53 suites, each designed to provide an experience of classic-contemporary grandeur. Guest rooms feature a soothing color palette, rich fabrics, designer furnishings, and dark oak wood floors. Many rooms provide superb views of the serene Ritz Garden or the world-famous Prado Museum. The opulent marble bathrooms are fitted with white Dolomite stone paneling and some feature freestanding bathtubs. The suites, such as the Palm Court Suite and the spacious Turret Suite, offer separate living areas and enhanced amenities for ultimate comfort. Every accommodation is a blend of timeless style and state-of-the-art technology, ensuring a restful and seamless stay.

Exquisite Culinary Journeys

The culinary landscape of the Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid is curated by the celebrated, multi-Michelin-starred Chef Quique Dacosta, encompassing five distinct restaurants and bars. The hotel's signature restaurant, Deessa, has been awarded two Michelin stars and offers an unforgettable gastronomic journey in the lavish Alfonso XIII room, overlooking the garden. For a more relaxed yet equally elegant experience, the Palm Court serves as the hotel's all-day dining venue, famously hosting a traditional Afternoon Tea under its restored glass dome. Guests can enjoy al fresco dining at El Jardín del Ritz, innovative cocktails at Pictura, or celebratory pairings at the sophisticated Champagne Bar. The diverse dining experiences are a destination in themselves, attracting both hotel guests and Madrid locals.
